8th Grade

I was honored to be a guest speaker at Truman Middle School in Tacoma today to talk about Sustainability. An old friend is a teacher there who is having her 3 classes work on a marketing plan for a sustainable product they come up with. A few I heard about were placebo tourette syndrome pills and organic hair growth stimulation.

In each class I went through a PowerPoint outlining the beginning to end of their product; its life cycle. The triple bottom line of economic, environmental and social considerations in business behavior was my underlying theme. A couple points I tried to make clear is the importance of asking questions, thinking about the long term impact and thinking about the whole picture. The students were really bright in general (except when it started snowing and then it took like 5 minutes to get full attention again... seems like yesterday). A few topics they brought up were food cloning, materials sourcing and organic compounds vs organic production.

Altogether, it was a great experience that it looks like I'll get to do again to a totally different audience... stay tuned for more.
