Comfort Food is open for business as of December 1st. The auspicious day was the owner's birthday, World AIDS day and the day of Puyallup's tree lighting ceremony on the adjacent Pioneer Park. All told the day went by quite well. We had no advertising and our signs are still on order, and still we were at near capacity all day. A great start to a fantastic space and cause. I have already given a lecture on how the project is apart of the community economic development of downtown Puyallup and we have interest in an article that may be published... wait and see.
On a personal note, it is still rather frustrating that the contractor continues to fail in his promises to bring several projects to completion (the wrong measurements for 3-form which was ordered 3 months late unbenownst to us, and having his engineer work up drawings for our steel awning, but just yesterday finding out he was using the old plans and so the 6 month delayed project goes back to start again). In all it is a great lesson on teamwork, oversight and the importance of working with the right people. Our contractor is a great individual and I have seen I have skill in managing people, products and time-lines. However, the two separated as has been the case since August, and many things are left uncommunicated and therefor unsupervised. Everything will be finished in due time, well ahead of the spring and summer busy season. The winter will give us time to refine our mac n cheese, service and the space to be warm and inviting for all.
I look forward to each of you having the opportunity to come and have a bite. Be sure to try the tomato soup, it's the best I have ever had!

Hey Ger, I was sad that I didn't see you on cafe opening day. Paul and I went by and enjoyed some soup and celebrated the addition of a fabulous new hang-out spot within walking distance :-) It's a beautiful, cozy cafe and you did a fabulous job!
